Girls Club

Empower and Equip Young Women

Health education. Creative expression. Smart parenting.
These are just a few topics covered in new Girls Club workshops to empower young women through education, mentorship, and community engagement, all within a safe and supportive environment.

Four objectives guide all activities:

  • Empowerment and leadership: To empower girls by developing their leadership skills and self-confidence.’
  • Personal development: To offering programs that promote personal growth, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence;
  • Community engagement: To encourage active participation in community service and social responsibility; and,
  • Networking: To create opportunities for members to connect with mentors and role models.

The program was launched in 2024 at Saraswati Bidhya Mandir school located 50 km from Janakpur in a typical old Nepali village location, The initial group of 35 girls is of mixed ethnicity, from high to lower castes, with most families from a farming, labor, or foreign employee profession.

Two of the most popular teaching segments are health education (such as hygiene, nutrition, and emotional well-being) and tools such as asking for help, a cultural difficulty that ties into Nepalese violence against girls and women.

Membership is inclusive for girls aged 12-18 from a local community or school. Participants commit to participate in club activities and uphold the club’s values, overseen by an advisory board of educators, community leaders, and professionals.

Based on the success of this pilot program, the Didi Project will be pursuing funding for other clubs through fundraising events, donations from community members and local businesses, and grants from educational and community organizations.
